Slow Wine 2024

LIFE - Present in Custoza since 1893, Piona winery is one of the major landmarks in the territory and one of the most notable ambassadors of the appellation. Today it is Alessandro and Massimo Piona who lead it: the two are based on solid principles, the same on which the great-grandfather Albino founded this project now in its fourth generation; at the same time they bring a certain vein of modernity. The large tasting room is perfect to be guided among wines and stories of other times.

VINEYARDS - We had the pleasure of walking among the rows of vineyards on Mount Mamaor, where the vines have their roots in the morainic soils typical of Custoza surrounded by a thick wooded area. The vineyard of the estate of Sona is also very scenic: the vines are arranged around a typical rural agglomeration, and here and there large boulders emerge from the ground brought from the glacier in a distant era.

WINES - The wines are genuine and elegant, and faithfully express the potentialities of the two denominations of origin.

Custoza Albino Piona 2022 - A satisfying wine, perfect on hot summer days thanks to the pleasantly fresh and mineral sip.

Custoza Macerato Crea 2020 - It amazes with fresh notes of chamomile and aromatic herbs, and the taste is full-bodied, fresh and savory.

Chiaretto di Bardolino 2022 - Floral, crunchy, agile.

Bardolino 2022 - Fruity, integrated, fine.

We had the pleasure of reviewing Custoza Superiore Campo del Selese 2020 and 2019: two wines that are still pleasantly fragrant and taut, both with lively notes of aromatic herbs and hydrocarbons.
