Our History
The Piona family has been handing down an unconditional passion for the world of wine since 1893, the year in which a far-sighted and ambitious Albino Piona, the great-grandfather, began to lay the foundations of a project that still continues to grow today.
Over the years, the founder Albino Piona slowly left the reins to his son Silvio who continued with commitment in the management of the family trattoria and in the production of wine.
Silvio, in honor of his father, named his son Albino. The latter chose to devote himself entirely to the production of wine, closing the trattoria after a few years and starting a long process of modernization. Thanks to the introduction of increasingly innovative machinery and cutting-edge technologies, the winery has been able to develop and expand, reaching over 45 hectares of vineyards between Sommacampagna, Valeggio, Sona and Villafranca, becoming a reference point for the wine production of the Custoza and Bardolino DOCs and particular wines such as Verde Piona.
Albino Piona’s sons, Alessandro and Massimo, like the three previous generations who have led the company over the years, have also chosen to maintain high product quality, investing in “short chain” production and respect for the environment. Every aspect, from the harvesting of the bunch to the storage of the finished product in the warehouse, takes place inside the new winery of Palazzina di Prabiano in Villafranca.
