The celebration of Custoza wine and the award winning winemakers
An outstanding result, the answer of the year 2018 in Custoza DOC. The propitious last year's weather conditions produced the results to be found in wineries. Fewer treatments on the grapes, better results in the bottle. The event, the 48th edition of one of the oldest competitions organized by the Italian Ministry, highlights the possibilities of one of Italy's excellence products: Custoza wine.
It comes from the blend of five grape sorts, where the winemakers' skills find their highest expression. The olfactory and taste features of this wine vary from winery to winery, yet the guidelines of the DOC laws are maintained.
At the sporting center Pico Verde in Custoza, at the presence of the newly elected president of Pro Loco Alessandro Pignatti and the retiring one Elio Franchini, all sample bottles have been examined. They were all tagged and anonymous. “A tough job for the jury given the high quality of wines,” the tasting expert Gastone Armigliato says. The features regarding color, transparency, perfume and taste have been detected on the basis of the evaluation forms by the Union International Des Oenologues.
As per Ministry Regulations, the minimum score to pass the selections amounts to 85/100 for DOC year 2018 and to 87/100 for Superiore year 2017. The jury was made up by Master Wine Tasters, Wine Tasters Onav, Ais and Oenologists. A Golden Medal Diploma will go to the wines which have passed the selections and will be given on the occasion of the Festa del Vino di Custoza on Sunday 9th June. After the award giving ceremony, the event will be open to public and there will be the opportunity to taste the wines at the various stands.
